Would you believe I never once picked an apple off a tree? Nor have I ever gone on a hay ride or wandered through a working farm picking things other than apples, such as peppers, kale or leafy green vegetables. First time for everything, I suppose.
Yesterday, my oldest daughter, SIL, GD#2, DH and I spent a lovely afternoon down on a local farm here picking apples. We ordered lunch outside overlooking the hundreds and hundreds of farm acres while we listened to a local band strum away. There was apple cider tastings (some had bourbon and/or rum stirred in for good measure!), apple spice doughnuts, odd shaped pumpkins, oodles of apple pies for sale and other seasonal treats.
If you haven’t gone apple picking, I highly recommend it. It was just lovely to spend a day outside with my family, breathing in that fine mountain air and taking in all that scenic natural beauty.
Now I know why farmers looked forward to harvest time. It’s the best thing on earth.
