There are two delightful, binge-worthy streaming series that I’ve been watching lately that I am certain you’d like to watch them too. The first one, is a sheer delight entitled “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and streams on Amazon Prime (@$12.99 a month). Don’t have Amazon Prime? No worries. You can get one month free and spend the month binge watching. You won’t be sorry.
It’s the late 1950s and Miriam “Midge” Maisel has everything she has ever wanted — the perfect husband, two kids and an elegant apartment on New York’s Upper West Side. Her seemingly idyllic life takes a surprising turn when she discovers a hidden talent she didn’t previously know she had — stand-up comedy. This revelation changes her life forever as she begins a journey that takes her from her comfortable life on the Upper West Side through the cafes and nightclubs of Greenwich Village as she makes her way through the city’s comedy industry on a path that could ultimately lead her to a spot on the “Tonight Show” couch. The series was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino (“Gilmore Girls”).
Winner of 8 Emmy Awards, Rachel Brosnahan, who delightfully plays Mrs. Maisel just won a 2019 Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Comedy (again!) for her perfect portrayal of Midge. Each and every cast member of the series is exactly perfect for their parts. Turn on your TV, start streaming Mrs. Maisel and I guarantee you will get so absorbed and lost inside the series, you will actually feel as if you were part of the story line. Yes! It’s that good! Side note: Tony Shalhoub is outstanding! The actor who portrays the haunting, touching, Lenny Bruce, Luke Kirby, is the show stopper. Kirby’s rendition of Bruce will bring tears to your eyes as he and Mrs. Maisel suffer gladly the trials and tribulations of stand-up life in the late 1950’s. Lenny Bruce was way ahead of his time and died a tragic early death.
The second binge-worthy series I am recommending streams on Netflix. It’s just perfect for this New Year as most of us are obsessed with downsizing, getting rid of clutter, purging unnecessary stuff out of our lives and just plain tidying up.
Her name is Marie Kondo and she is the current queen of “tidying up“.
In the business of keeping spaces clean and tidy, few people have made as much of a name for themselves as Marie Kondo, the woman who got the world talking – and decluttering – with her book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying.
Kondo has received international praise for her KonMari method of decluttering and now she has her own Netflix show all about helping people to tidy up their homes and transform their lives.
One of the first things Marie Kondo advises people to do is address the amount of clothes they have packed away inside their houses. Ms. Kondo has her clients yank all of their clothes out of their closets and pile them on top of their beds. The visual effect of a person seeing all their clothes piled, sometimes as high as the ceiling, is a powerful one. If you are serious about getting your life in order, start streaming this series on your Netflix account (first month free). Since most of the readers here are retirees or near-retirees, I recommend starting with the empty-nester couple. Prepare to be astounded!
